Greta Week 2: "on a scale of 1-10, how excited are you for this?"
That was my big ice-breaker with my stranger(s) this week. When going to see Hamilton on Wednesday, I purposely positioned myself on the end of our group so I would be sitting by a stranger. Normally, I would prefer to sit in the middle of two people I know. BUT, I took this opportunity to ask the two girls sitting next to me how excited they were to see Hamilton. At first they paused and it made me think, "oh maybe they're not as excited about this as I am." Then they both answered "ELEVEN!" So I knew we could be friends.
From there it was easy, I asked if they'd been to the Eccles Theater before (they had). They told me all the professional shows they've seen and all the ones they are going to see this year. They finally decided it was worth it to splurge on season tickets. Since they really seemed to know a lot about the Salt Lake live theater scene, I asked them about the different theaters and how the Eccles compares to those.
Our conversation did not go any deeper than just talking about shows and theaters, but I did feel very accomplished that my strangers were over the age of five.
